Market Manager Position Description

THE MARKET:

​The Cheverly Community Market (CCM) was founded in 2007. CCM is committed to offering a vibrant market that strengthens the community through providing fresh, nutritious food from local sources, and encouraging unique local businesses and artisans. We create an atmosphere that fosters community, inclusivity, and educational activities, while encouraging the local economy.​

POSITION SUMMARY:

​The Market Manager manages the biweekly and holiday community market events with support from Board members and volunteers. Develops market map for each market and ensures successful execution of market setup, vendor engagement and market tear down. Serves as primary point of contact for all market vendors and county inspectors. Serves as primary point of contact with Cheverly town officials.

  • Ability to solve problems and respond to vendor needs and inquiries 

  • Ability to manage people and processes 

  • Ability to use technology systems for data management and communication 

  • Knowledge of farmer’s market trends and operations

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

​Position requires both indoor and outdoor activity which may include both hot and cold temperatures.

​

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

​Must be able to lift to 50 pounds. Requires ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, stoop, and set-up and take down tents/tables.

​

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage biweekly and holiday community markets including set-up and tear-down. Determine if market will be indoors or outdoors, number of tables and other equipment needed. Develop and share vendor market map before each market. 

  • Be available to vendors and customers during markets to assist with inquiries and needs. 

  • Serve as main point of contact for all vendors. Collect and review all vendor requests including space, electricity, canopy, etc. Review vendor licenses and permits. Formally admit or deny admittance to vendors. Maintain vendor database. 

  • Ensure that Board table supplies are available and ready on market day and store them after each market. Ensure that tablecloths are cleaned after each market or as needed. 

  • Check and respond to Market email inquiries regularly and daily as needed leading up to and during Market season. Co-manage market email account with Communications Committee. 

  • Obtain and update necessary permits for CCM. 

  • Participate in Vendor Relations Committee of the Board to cultivate vendors to achieve desired vendor mix. Maintain list of vendor cultivation activities. 

  • Develop market season calendar with input from Board regarding special events or special markets. 

  • Ensure vendor resource information in vendor handbook is accurate and current. 

  • Contribute to editing of CCM documents and posting to website and shared drives. 

  • Contribute to website content as needed. 

  • Serve as primary point of contact with Cheverly town officials and county officials. 

  • Attend monthly Board meetings and provide monthly report.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Compensation: This is a part-time, non-exempt, seasonal position. Payment is per market: $400 per regular market and $500 per holiday market. This seasonal position will end no later than December 14, 2024, with the possibility to return next season based on performance.

​

Ideal Start Date: March 1, 2024

​

Locations & Expected Hours:

  • Pre-Season: participate in a few hours of training & onboarding

  • Farmers Market Season (May 4 - December 14): manage biweekly and holiday community markets including set-up and tear-down, from 6am - 1pm.

  • Participation in monthly virtual CCM Board Meetings, the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm.
